About The Book:

What if the series of grisly murders you have been seeing on the news were actually committed by a Fairy creature thought only to exist in books or movies, and even more fantastic, the only person who can stop this killer is also of the Fey race and comes from an entirely different realm than our own? This is the essence of Dying Moon.

Dying Moon tells the story of Kalen Or'wain, dedicated Captain of the Elven Royal Guard, and his exploits on a quest to save his people. Little did Kalen know when his quiet evening at home was interrupted by a summons from the Elven Council, he would be thrust into an adventure taking him across realms to the Human world, and bring him face to face with a hated rival from his past who is intent on nothing short of the destruction of the entire Elven Race.

Kalen's adventure will take him to the Human city of Los Angeles where he will team with an enigmatic Federal Agent, and befriend Amy Sommers an LAPD Homicide Detective. Together these three will attempt to stop the rogue Elf, who the Humans believe to be a run of the mill deranged serial killer, but in actuality is something far more sinister. The crazed and evil Elf is in fact preying on the corrupt denizens of L.A. in an attempt to complete a ritual that would turn the very thing the Elves love most, the Moon, into a weapon of mass destruction.

Though Dying Moon is technically a work of fantasy, it is different from other genre works in that it takes place primarily in Los Angeles. It combines fantasy elements with action, drama, humor, romance, along with investigation and forensic techniques. Dying Moon also takes a broader look at how even Fey races found throughout the fantasy genre must cope with human ideals such as revenge versus justice.

"Shawn Oetzel seamlessly blends crime drama and fantasy in this exciting debut novel. As the tale unfolds, he explores the clash of elven and human cultures in the modern world and spices it up with enough action that it'll keep you turning the pages."
